INSULATION SERVICES

Spray foam is a chemical product created by two materials, isocyanate and polyol resin, which react when mixed with each other and expand up to 30-60 times its liquid volume after it is sprayed in place. This produces a high thermal insulating value with virtually no air infiltration or sound penetration. At S&K, we are one of the few providers that do this work effectively and recommend Closed Cell Spray Foam as the best overall insulation in most applications.
OPEN CELL SPRAY FOAM
Light-density open-cell SPF is commonly known as half-pound foam. It is a semi-rigid material with a sponge-like appearance that expands during installation and creates small, open cells that create insulating properties. Due to its ability to expand during the application process, it fills cracks, crevices and voids and adheres to irregular surfaces or substrates to form an air sealing insulation. Application requires professional equipment, experience, and training.

BLOW IN INSULATION
Blown-in insulation, also known as loose-fill insulation, is ideal for attic insulation and filling irregular cavities. There are two main types of blown-in insulation: cellulose and fiberglass. Cellulose insulation is made from recycled paper that’s treated for fire resistance and packs tightly between joists. Fiberglass insulation is a budget-friendly option that’s also fire-resistant and reduces attic insulation cost. We have invested in the proper equipment and training to do the job right, regardless of the job.
BATTS
Batt insulation is made of fiberglass or mineral wool (also called rock wool). Batt insulation was traditionally manufactured in rolls but is now manufactured and precut into industry-standard sizes. Batt insulation is installed with facing (called kraft-faced batts) or without facing. This is typically the least expensive option for insulation but often has more air leaks than other types of insulation that seal every gap, such as spray foam.

AIR SEALING
Air sealing reduces drafts and heat loss by eliminating air leaks in the building around the chimney, plumbing penetrations, recessed lights, and all other gaps in insulation. We use a variety of materials, including caulk, spray foam, metal flashing, weather stripping, and rigid foam to seal these gaps to provide maximum energy efficiency.
OTHER SERVICES
We provide a variety of other services necessary for increasing the energy efficiency of your home and ensuring all code is met. this includes baffles, poly liner in crawl spaces, and others.
